We about us

Development of the Energy Agency - Employees - back to the beginning

The aim of the Energy Agency is the increase of efficiency of the use of energy and the use of renewable, domestic sources of energy in the interest of the regional development policy, the environment protection and long term effectiveness. We are the at the interface between administration, policy, research and the consumers of energy. Our activities comprise the technical and organisational support of energy projects, consciousness raising and PR work (exhibitions, publications, conferences etc.), training (expert further training, promotion of research), European co-operation (participation in EU-research and development projects), energy counselling as well as the organisation and award of grants.

Development of the Energy Agency Styria

back to the beginning, back to the beginning of the site

The Energy Agency Styria was founded in 1981. One of the original focuses was to carry out energy counselling in the form of information evenings in the communities as well as individual counselling for households and to organise teaching units in schools. Therefore more than 150 people have been trained to become advisors since the foundation.

Due to the situation of the power industry supporting biomass-district-heating networks financially was very important - the agency subsidised with non-repayable grants . But for the creation of over 90 distict-heating networks in Styria the initiation and the idealistic support, the EDP supported technical and organisational counselling was of major importance. The "Manual distant heat / district heat from biomass" is a summary, it was taken over by Salzburg and was also greatly acknowledged abroad.

The "Manual for communal and regional energy planning" was an essential condition for the creation and realisation of energy concepts. Here also the establishment of energy balances (in the form of flow charts) was of major importance.

Apart from these tasks there was the financial aid and the technical support of research and development. More than 100 projects of different extent also dealt with the environmental influence of the use of enrgy, particularly that of biomass, with the description of ecological circles, with the determination of the potential available and with the improvement of technical possibilities. A competition for the development of small-scale combustion plants was advertised, for instance. There were projects for the use of solar energy, energy efficiency, for the use of waste heat in special fields in industry. Software programmes have been developed that make necessary activities in the field of energy easier.
