Name NIG demonstration project / New intelligence for old buildings
Project duration Autumn 1998 - Autumn 2000
Content The aim of the project was to gain experience and knowledge from the use of a property by taking measurements, and by observing user behaviour and plant engineering. This knowledge would then be made available to a larger circle of interested parties in talks, consulting and co-operation projects in order to develop an implementation strategy to provide appropriate recommendations. The idea here is based on the following five concepts: low energy consumption, water economy, indoor air quality, eco-design and cross-linking. The demonstration property underwent conversion, extension and comprehensive repairs to turn a one-family house into a multiple-family dwelling.

Name Energy pass for buildings

Building energy labelling and energy technologies: a solution for market transparency

EU programme Thermie B
Project duration April 1997 - June 1998
Content

In this project, information is to be gathered and published on energy consumption in buildings, followed by the issue of some 200 energy passes in the participating regions. In addition, approximately 40 detailed building audits are to be performed and analysed. Specialists will also be trained for this purpose as part of the project.
A separate questionnaire will be distributed to gauge the degree of acceptance for these building passes, as well as any obstacles to their acceptance, and a marketing strategy for these building passes will then be developed.
The results of these building investigations and of the statistics gathered will be presented to the public at seminars and in a booklet.

LEV contribution

Name Energy efficiency in public buildings
EU programme ECOS-OUVERTURE II
Project duration January 1997 to December 1997
Content

The main focus of this project is energy consumption in public buildings. In all of the countries participating, investigations are conducted into the energy quality in public buildings (authorities, schools, etc.) This data is then analysed to develop concepts to reduce energy consumption. There will then be an exchange of data and findings, and of information on potential improvement measures. This project is also particularly aimed at co-operation with Romania and Bulgaria. Engineers and civil servants in these countries are being trained and assisted in repairing energy consumers in public buildings, all as part of the project.

LEV contribution

Detailed investigations were conducted on public buildings at 27 local authorities in Styria and improvement measures were developed. In Graz, a 3-day training course was provided for energy management engineers, as well as for officials from Romania and Bulgaria (measuring methods, energy bookkeeping, etc.). In July 1997, LEV staged an international conference on building renovation.
